Can you please tell me where you guys met and what work you do?
We met in 2007 at a Pizza joint in Durban. We manufacture denim for various retailers and both have our own brands which we work on together
How did you decide to work together? Was it just an idea at the time or were you both in the industry and decided to go for it?
Molly: It was 2007 and I was working for my current company but based in Durban and got Mathew a job there as a junior merchandiser.
Matt: I was working at Reebok at the time and Molly hooked me up with a job.
What is the common thread that holds you two together and why you thrive off each other?
Molly: We’ve obviously been together for years so understand how each of us work and we know when one of needs help and we know when one of us needs space.
Matt: We also know each other’s strengths and weaknesses so I think that helps – a working relationship is a relationship after all.
What are some of the biggest challenges you face with working together with your partner?
Molly: Mat will answer this one ☺
Matt: What to eat for lunch every day!
You each have your own brands that are so different; is this something you always wanted to do? Why not work on one brand?
Molly: I always wanted to do a women’s line for Sol-Sol but then realised that so many girls actually wear Sol-Sol for what it is anyway so decided to create something completely different
Matt: We did Sol-Sol first and although there was a lot of work involved we didn’t feel like it would be enough work for both of us to have our freedom in it, so Sol-Sol has it’s own thing going on and Maylee is a new exciting project for us.
How do you feel being in each other’s space all the time?
Matt: we Like being in each other’s space all the time, this is why we decided to get married.
Do you separate work from play or do the two overlap. Are there any rules about this?
Molly: It can be a tricky one and we find it difficult to separate the two but we have come up with a cool way to handle it. When we are going through a tough time at work we chose to strategise over a breakfast meeting, it feels good solving a problem outside of the office and when we have cool things in the pipeline we chose to talk about it over a dinner as kind of a pre – celebration of what’s to come.
Matt: what she said
What can we expect from you guys in the next year/ what current projects are you busy with?
Molly: Maylee is still early days but we can expect a lot of collections within the next year and we will see from there.
Matt: Sol-Sol has a more exciting things coming this year but we can’t talk about all of them just yet.
